Travel to West Africa in 2018

Welcome to my first BLOG.  Tell me what you think!
I am looking forward to traveling around West Africa in the very near future. It has been a  couple of years since I visted this facinating destination - Time to return and I would love to have you go along.
My travel expereinces have been in Senegal and The Gambia, Mali, Benin, Togo and Ghana.
My first trip to Senegal and the Gambia, gave me a lasting vision of the slave trade days,  by the visit to Goree Island. Is was humbling to SEE and hear the story of how my forefathers were sold into slavery and shipped from this Island. I have returned with clients and each time their is a differenct level of knowledge gained and feelings of emotions - but great lessons learned. A more fun thing is visiting the markets, shopping and people watching Colorful dress, attire and mannerisms.  A great place to hone your bargaining skills. The continue ground trip to The Gambia was to see and visit the descendants of "Kuta Kinta" from the movie ROOTS. Boat rides, welcoming parties (yes party), tiruals and celebrations. There is the annual Roots Festival - well worth the trip!

The next part of the West Africa Journey may take us to Ghana and the neighboring countries of Togo and /or Benin.  More history, culture and heritage knowledge of the Black Experience. Ghana is one of the main destinations of West Africa. Much to do and see and you spend several days crisscrossing the country, visiting old castles, fishing villages (still active from slave days), various African Kingdoms, villages and town (see everyday living), market places, factories, kenta cloth weaving and fabric markets and museums.. You will LOVE this country! Naming Ceremonies and Rites of Passage can be arranged.
Benin and Togo, as an addition, will give insight into the slave route, existing African rites and rituals and the true Voodo culture. More authenic markets for shopping, towns on stilts and ancient museums. You must leave with memories - for a lot of the unique places do NOT allow filming and pictures. But it is awesome!

This journey is to be an eye-opening, soul-searching and delightful expereince for all - African descendants, photgraphers, storytellers, artists, collectors,  history buffs and adventurous travellers.
I like to escort small group travels, private guides, and happy travelers. However, we can accommodate educational classes, churches and any goroup or individual.

There is still space for several people at my March 6 West Africa Showcase With my African gound operators from Ghana. This is a listenand learn w/PRIZES for interested people ONLY! Contact me for more information  - mcclearym@bellsouth.net
